Greening EU Competition Policy, 4 February 2021 DG COMP launches public conference on the Energy & Environment State Aid Guidelines review

During a parliamentary interview at the European Parliament of 22 September 2020, Commissioner Vestager for EU Competition, quizzed by the Renew Europe Group, announced an outstanding policy reform initiative aimed at reviewing EU rules on State aid, anti-trust, and mergers in the light of the New Green Deal with a view of adjusting the key provisions to the necessities of the Green deal objectives (last review in 2012).

As part of the set of announcements made, Commissioner Vestager informed the audience that a general call for contributions collecting inputs from the widest pool of stakeholders would have been launched, as a prelude to the consultations on the review of key pillars of EU Competition policy among which the State Aid for Environmental Protection and Energy Guidelines (EEAG).

The results of such a general survey will be disclosed publicly at a public conference for 2021, which has now been confirmed for 4 February 2021 together with a specific draft program, accessible here. The event is of particular importance especially for Energy Intensive Industries which are among the targeted actors of the reform.

Cerame-Unie has replied jointly with other energy intensive industries to this consultation.
